LRYHA Program Information

The Lakes Region Youth Hockey Association (LRYHA) is dedicated to the development of young athletes and in particular to the growth and development of the great game of ice hockey in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. LRYHA is governed by USA Hockey (www.usahockey.com) and shares in its mission to promote this fun and exciting sport. LRYHA is committed not only to the development of the ice hockey player but to the development of the player and in teaching the valuable lessons that participation in sports has to offer while doing so in a fun and competitive environment. LRYHA offers four programs; Full Season Travel, Split Season Midgets, Mini Mites-instructional and a Learn to Skate for hockey program.
Full Season Travel 
is offered at the Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam age division with two teams typically being placed at each age division. The LRYHA focus is a blend of practice, skill development, and game time to assist the player in reaching their fullest capability. The Full Season Travel program is the core or the LRYHA offering and offers the most ice-time. Upper level Squirt teams participate in the Granite State League and Seacoast Hockey League as do all Pee Wee and Bantam Teams. Mite A teams participate in either Granite State or Seacoast League. Mite B teams may participate in a limited travel schedule or in Granite State or Seacoast L. Our Full Season Travel hockey program provides an environment where players can learn and enjoy hockey in an environment where we stress individual skill, team play, responsibility, hard work, and fun.

LRYHA provides a game jersey and socks. The jersey can only be worn during LRYHA games. Game Jersey’s must be returned at the end of the season.

Split Season Midgets
is focused on the high school age player (15 years old typically), both boys and girls. The purpose of this program is to prepare players for their high school team tryouts and season.

Mini-Mites (instructional) 
The Little Lakers’ program is designed as a “Learn to Play Hockey” or “Intro to Mites” program. The Little Lakers’ is a program shaped to help young players prepare to enter the Mite league. The program is for young players that have completed a “learn to skate” program and can now continue on with their skating development while learning the skills necessary to play hockey. The program will begin in early November and will continue through early March. Players may be divided into “Teams” at the discretion of the coaching staff. The teams will have shared ice practices consisting of one practice on Saturday mornings from 8:15AM to 9:15AM and another on Monday 5:15 PM to 6:05 PM.
Each Session Includes:
· 2 on-Ice sessions and instruction per week
· Short Scrimmages or other competitive games
· Skating Skills
· Stick Handling, Passing and Shooting Skills
· Stride Development
· Fun-filled Drills with a games approach to learning in order to encourage the Child’s Love for the Game
Required equipment includes:
· Hockey Skates with nylon laces
· Helmet – HECC approved helmet and face mask with side and chin straps
· Shin pads with Velcro shin pad fasteners
· Warm-up pants or sweat pants large enough to fit over shin pads
· Elbow pads
· Hockey gloves
· Hockey stick and tape (when coach directs)
· Hockey pants
· Shoulder pads
· Protective supporter

Learn to Skate (for hockey) 
The Learning Lakers is a “learn to skate” program with an emphasis on skating skills as well as an introduction to puck and hockey play. The program consists of one eleven (11) week sessions and will begin in early December and will continue through the middle of February. Players may be divided into “Teams” depending upon the registration numbers and level of skill. The “teams” will have one shared ice practice on Sunday mornings from approximately 10:45 to 11:45am and the cost of the progrom is $50.00 for the full 11 week session. This is an inexpensive program and a great way to introduce the future star to the great game of hockey!
Each Session Includes:
- 1 Hour of on-Ice Instruction per Week
- Lakers Learn to Skate for hockey Jersey
- Games and fun activities and/or scrimmages
- Skating Skills
- Stick Handling, Passing and Shooting Skills
- Stride Development
- Fun-filled Drills to encourage the Child’s Love for the Game
Required equipment includes:
· Hockey Skates with nylon laces
· Helmet – HECC approved helmet and face mask with side and chin straps
· Elbow pads
· Shin pads
· Hockey or ski gloves
· Hockey Stick – NO sticks allowed until requested by instructor.
