USA Hockey Adopts New Standard Of Play
USA Hockey is looking to bring speed and skill back to the game with new Standard of Play and Rules Enforcement policies starting with the 2006-07 season. By getting rid of the “clutching and grabbing” that has bogged down the game in recent years, as the NHL and NCAA have done, USA Hockey hopes to increase the flow of the game and improve the skills and enjoyment of every youth hockey player. “As the leader of amateur hockey in the United States, we continue to focus on growing the game and making the game better,” said USA Hockey President Ron DeGregorio. “In mandating the enforcement of rules that particularly deal with the obstruction of a player in any fashion, our game will be better and we’ll attract more players and fans to the game. USA Hockey To Coaches: Time To Cover Up
USA Hockey coaches will take the ice this season with a piece of mind that comes with being protected against life’s little slips, trips and falls. USA Hockey’s Board of Directors voted to approve a new rule that will require all ice hockey coaches and instructors of registered USA Hockey youth/high school, disabled, girls’/women’s 19 & under and below programs to properly wear ice hockey helmets during all on-ice sessions. The new policy addresses a serious safety issue that has been a hot topic for several years. Click here for more.
Growth Sprouts From The Grass-Roots
From Texas to Minnesota and from Washington to New York, local grass-roots hockey associations are coming up with new and creative ways of growing the game of hockey. While USA Hockey continues its efforts to bring more players to the game on a national level, it’s the efforts at the grass-roots programs that are cultivating the most growth. Click here for more.
